Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, James' passion for painting revealed talent at an early age. His art is greatly influenced from his experiences travelling the world. Whether boating on the canals in Venice (1978),climbing to the summit of Mt. Fuji (1991),cycling Haleakula at dawn in Hawaii (1993), exploring Mayan ruins of theYucatan (1994), diving the waters of Fiji (1999), New Zealand (1998,2001,2007) or in the Red Sea (2006), James continues to gather inspiration for textures and colours to bring home to his Vancouver studio.

In the Middle East - The Four Season`s Hotel in Jordan also displays one of James` commissions in the form of an aged bronze fire screen.
